I just realized I had been remiss in posting about this label and homebrew I made. Thankfully, I was reminded that more Sparks McGee is always a good thing. Also, my inspiration for the label came from here (thanks Wil!).

I created this recipe over the winter as a pure mad science experiment in brewing. I was curious to see what an oaked IPA - a dark IPA, or what is now known as the American-Style Black Ale - would be like. The short answer, AMAZESAUCE.

I was aiming for something that had that nice citrus hop profile but with the fantastic vanilla overtones you get from oaking. I think I hit the mark pretty well. However, next time I think I’m going to use oak cubes instead of chips to maximize the vanilla without as much woodiness. We put this brew directly into keg (our first kegged brew, actually) and I was surprised by how well it aged. Normally the hoppy brews don’t age so well.

For those interested, the current recipe is over at BrewToad. This has quickly become one of our favorite recipies and we have plans to brew it again in the very near future.

The best photo I got of the Sparks McGee cosplay at Ottawa Comic Con 2013. I had such a great time at the con, and Wil Wheaton is so awesome. When I went to buy a lil’ Wil plush and have it signed Saturday morning, he looked really really tired so I didn’t trouble him, just said thanks and went on my way. :) I hope him and Anne enjoyed Ottawa, even after their flight disasters!

I’ve been looking for a cowboy hat for my Playmates Wesley Crusher mod for months. I was however fortunate enough to come across one that was perfect for this larger Art Asylum Wesley figure… and a legend is born.

So earlier today I was at the arcade and way in the back was this video game called Sparks McGee Jr. At the outset it looked fairly simple, but it has a complexity that only time spent could appreciate. Apparently the object of the game is to plot a course to the top of a building before the villain Evil Wil Wheaton gets to the bottom and wrecks your Bitchin’ TransAm. The machine ate a whole roll of quarters before I got frustrated with it and walked away. I guess I should just stick to MMORPG’s…..
